Freedom Forum

Freedom Forum is a non-governmental organization, working for institutionalization of democracy, protection and promotion of human rights, press freedom, freedom of expression and right to information in Nepal. The organization was founded in February, 2005, barely few weeks after the infamous February 1 coup d’etat of King Gyanendra. A group of like-minded and democratically conscious professionals from media, law and academic backgrounds thought that something must be done to protect the hard-earned media and democratic rights in the country. Freedom Forum, which has done a great deal whether that be in putting pressure for the adoption of RTI act or in promoting RTI culture or creating public awareness, is a pioneer organization in Right to Information (RTI) in Nepal. Right to Information is the backbone of democracy. If people do not have right to know and are not empowered to question their government for accountability, democracy will not have real meaning in true sense. Freedom Forum is continuoulsy putting its effort for the promotion of RTI culture in Nepal. The history of Nepali press is not very old (click Nepali Media for details). But the role played by Nepali press in disseminating information as well as educating the people about the value of civil rights and freedom is indeed quite remarkable. In this website, visitors can get access to detailed information on media, politics and human rights situation in Nepal. Our documentation archives and rolling news updates are specially aimed at benefiting our readers.
