CCRI Participated in the South Asian Regional Conference of RTI Advocates and Practitioners in Maldives

Mr. Tanka Aryal, the Executive Director of CCRI made an active participation in the South Asian Regional Conference of RTI Advocates and Practitioners on the theme of "Promoting People's Right to Information, Achievements and Challenges" in Hulhule Island Hotel, North Malé, Maldives from 27th-28th August, 2014. The Conference had been organized by Commonwealth Human Rights Initiatives (CHRI) and Transparency Maldives with a support of the Open Society Foundations and Friedrich Neumann Foundation Für Die Freiheit. RTI advocates and practitioners from the countries like Maldives, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh Sri-Lanka, Myanmar, Mexico, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal participated in the Conference.

Mr. Tanka Aryal presented on the topic “Use and implementation of the RTI Act in Nepal" in the First Session of the Conference in the Session "Implementing RTI Laws: Lessons Learnt". In the presentation, Mr. Aryal highlighted on the RTI Legal Regime in Nepal and situation of its implementation. Mr. Aryal shared some significant case incidents of Nepal which sets foundation how RTI can be used to ensure peoples entitlements.

Mr. Aryal briefed how CCRI is working in collaboration with different stakeholders. Particularly, RTI Centre as a ICT based help desk and strategic RTI application filling to promote RTI were two issues discussed elaborately.


Mr. Aryal considered that CCRI's representation in the Conference not only provided a platform for sharing the experiences of RTI usage in the respective countries but it has also added up a sound network to jointly effort for the promotion of RTI especially focusing at South Asia.
